How To Add Live Web Pages to a PowerPoint Presentation

Adding live web pages to your PowerPoint presentations can be a great way to showcase up-to-date information, interactive content, or dynamic data visualizations. However, PowerPoint does not have a built-in feature that allows you to directly embed live websites.

In this article, I will walk you through the entire process of adding live web pages to your PowerPoint slides using a simple PowerPoint add-in.

Prerequisites

Before we get started, make sure you have the following:

  • PowerPoint installed on your computer (this works for any recent version of PowerPoint)
  • The LiveWeb PowerPoint add-in installed

The LiveWeb add-in allows you to insert live websites directly into your PowerPoint slides.

Step 1: Install the LiveWeb Add-in

The first step is to download and install the LiveWeb add-in:

  1. Open PowerPoint on your computer.
  2. Click on the File tab.
  3. Click Options in the left sidebar.
  4. Select Add-ins from the left sidebar.
  5. In the Add-ins available box, click Go next to Manage COM Add-ins.
  6. Click Add in the Add-ins available box.
  7. Select the LiveWeb add-in and click OK.

This will install the LiveWeb add-in so you can use it in PowerPoint.

Step 2: Insert a New Slide

Now that you’ve installed the add-in, go back to your presentation and insert a new slide where you want to place the live web page.

You can insert a slide by:

  • Clicking the Home tab
  • Clicking the New Slide button in the Slides group

This will insert a new, blank slide where you can add your live web page.

Step 3: Launch the LiveWeb Wizard

With your new slide created, launch the LiveWeb wizard to insert your live web page:

  1. Click the Insert tab
  2. Click Web Pages in the Add-ins group
  3. The LiveWeb wizard will open

Step 4: Configure the Live Web Page

In the LiveWeb wizard, you can configure your live web page:

  1. Enter the full URL of the web page you want to insert
  2. Select the slide size – Fit to slide sizes it automatically
  3. Configure refresh rate if desired
  4. Click Create when ready

LiveWeb will insert the live web page into your selected slide, resizing it and configuring the refresh rate based on your settings.

You can repeat this process to add multiple live web pages to your presentation.

Step 5: Present Your Slides

Now you’re ready to present your slides with live web pages!

When you go into presentation mode and advance to those slides, the web pages will load live, displaying up-to-date information.

The pages will refresh automatically based on the rate you configured. So if you set a 5 minute refresh, the web page will reload with updated content every 5 minutes.

And that’s it! With just a few clicks, you can now embed live web pages in your PowerPoint presentations using the LiveWeb add-in.

Tips for Using Live Web Pages

Here are some additional tips when working with live web pages in PowerPoint:

  • Test your presentation before the actual presentation to ensure the web pages load properly
  • For websites requiring login, login in advance before presenting to avoid login screens
  • Set an appropriate refresh rate to balance performance and fresh data
  • Ensure a stable internet connection when presenting to prevent errors
  • Use concise page titles and subtitles to provide context for each web page
