Creating a custom slideshow in PowerPoint allows you to tailor your presentation to specific audiences or needs. Instead of having multiple presentations for different groups, you can use one file and build custom shows from a subset of slides.
Custom slideshows are easy to set up and run. Follow these simple steps:
Select the Slides
- Open the PowerPoint file with the main presentation. This is the file containing all of the slides you may want to use.
- Click on the Slide Show tab and select Custom Slide Show.
- Choose Custom Shows from the dropdown menu.
- Click the New button to open the Define Custom Show dialog box.
- Give your new custom slideshow a name at the top under Slide Show Name. For example, “Leadership Presentation”.
- In the left pane, click on each slide you want to add to the custom show. Selected slides appear in the right pane.
- Use the up and down arrows on the right to rearrange the slide order if needed.
- Click OK when you have added all the slides.
Run the Custom Slideshow
Once your custom show is defined, running it is simple:
- Go to the Slide Show tab.
- Click on Custom Slide Show and select the name of the show you want to present from the dropdown menu.
- Click the From Beginning button to start the slideshow.
- Use slide navigation buttons as usual to move through the custom presentation.
- When finished, right click and select End Show or press the Esc key.
Link to a Custom Show
You can also set up a hyperlink to jump directly into a custom slideshow:
- On the slide where you want the link, insert a text box or shape.
- Right click on the object and choose Hyperlink.
- In the dialog box, select Place in This Document on the left.
- Expand the Custom Shows selection and choose the custom show to link to.
- Check the box for Show and Return if you want PowerPoint to return to the original slide after playing the custom show.
- Click OK to insert the hyperlink.
Edit an Existing Custom Show
To edit a custom show you’ve already set up:
- Go to Slide Show > Custom Slide Show > Custom Shows.
- Select the custom show you want to edit and click the Edit button.
- Add or remove slides as needed on the right side.
- Use the arrow buttons to rearrange slides.
- Click OK to save changes.
With these simple steps, you can easily create multiple custom presentations tailored to specific audiences or needs, all from one PowerPoint file. Custom shows keep your content organized and let you reuse slides efficiently across presentations.
