How to Remove Slide Number from PowerPoint Slides

Adding slide numbers to your PowerPoint presentation can be useful for helping the audience follow along and reference specific slides. However, you may decide later that you want to remove the slide numbers, either from certain slides or the entire presentation. Here is a step-by-step guide to removing slide numbers in PowerPoint.

1. Open the PowerPoint Presentation

First, open the PowerPoint presentation that contains the slide numbers you want to remove. The slide number will appear in the footer area of each slide.

2. Access the Header and Footer Menu

Next, go to the “Insert” tab and click on “Slide Number” in the Text group.

3. Uncheck the Slide Number Box

In the dialog box, click on the “Slide” tab. Uncheck the box next to “Slide number” to remove slide numbers.

4. Apply to All or Selected Slides

You now have two options:

  • Click “Apply” to remove the slide number from only the currently selected slide
  • Click “Apply to All” to remove slide numbers from all slides

5. Hide Numbers on Title Slide Only

If you only want to hide the slide number on the title slide, do the following instead:

7. Remove Numbers from Specific Slides

This will remove numbers from only those selected slides.

8. Add Slide Numbers Back In

If you change your mind and want to add slide numbers back to the presentation, simply follow step 2 again and re-check the “Slide number” box, then click “Apply to All.”
