How to Change or Remove Animations From PowerPoint Slides

PowerPoint allows you to add various animations and transitions to slides to make your presentation more dynamic and visually appealing. However, sometimes the animations can be distracting or you may want to update them. Here’s how to change or remove animations in PowerPoint.

Remove a Single Animation from a Slide

To remove a single animation effect:

  1. Select the slide with the animation you want to remove.
  2. Click the Animations tab.
  3. Click Animation Pane in the Advanced Animation group. This opens a pane listing all animations.
  4. Click the animated object on the slide to highlight its animation effects.
  5. In the Animation Pane, click the drop-down arrow next to the animation effect and select Remove.

Repeat these steps for any other animation effects you want to delete from the slide.

Remove All Animations from a Slide

To delete all animations on a slide at once:

  1. Select any object on the slide.
  2. Press Ctrl + A to select all objects.
  3. On the Animations tab, click None in the Animation group.

All animation effects are now removed from the slide.

Change an Animation Effect

To swap one animation for another:

  1. Select the object with the animation you want to change.
  2. On the Animations tab, open the animation gallery and select the new animation.
  3. Customize any effect options as needed.

The new animation replaces the previous one.

Disable Animations for the Presentation

To temporarily turn off animations for the entire presentation:

  1. Go to the Slide Show tab.
  2. Click Set Up Slide Show.
  3. Check the box for Show Without Animation and click OK.

Animations are disabled but still remain in the presentation for future use. Uncheck the box to re-enable animations.

Tips for Using Animations

  • Use subtle, simple animations like fades or flies rather than distracting motion paths or spins.
  • Be consistent with animation styles and directions on a slide.
  • Animate important points you want to emphasize. Don’t over-animate.
  • Set fast animation timing (0.5 sec). Lengthy animations become tedious.
  • Test animations thoroughly in Slide Show view. Make sure they enhance your content!

Remove Transitions Between Slides

To delete a transition:

  1. Select the slide after the transition you want to remove.
  2. On the Transitions tab, open the transition gallery and select None.

To remove transitions from all slides at once, select Apply to All after choosing None.
